Maver's Andy Kinder has paid the Island Pool a visit here at Woodside after hearing of the run of specimen perch that have recently been taken during club matches.
Andy fished peg 12, which is the in-form peg at the moment for big stripeys and today was no exception! Andy fished chopped worm and caster short to take four perch ranging from 2lbs to over 3lbs as part of a winter feature for Match Fishing magazine.
Andy, who has never fished the venue before, was delighted with his days efforts stating that he also lost two very big perch as well. Andy commented "I can't believe the amount of quality perch here at Woodside. I've actually released another eight fish between 1lb - 1lb 8oz as they weren't big enough for the feature"! Andy went on to say "it's a lovely set-up here at Woodside. I will definately be back in the summer when the weather has warmed up".
The feature will be available end of January / beginning of February next year. Be sure to grab a copy!
Another brace of specimen perch has been taken from Woodside, this time from Woodside Pool. Again, the specimen fish were caught by Central Trains angler Steve Prior, who is building himself a bit of a reputation!
The perch were caught from peg 8 on pole fished worm over a bed of casters and weighed in at 4lbs exactly and 3lb 12oz. These specimens are the latest of a series of big perch emerging from the venue with ten fish ranging between 2-5lbs having been caught in the last two weeks. The Island Pool has seen a massive influx of specialist anglers all seeking a big perch, including well known angler Des Taylor.

Steve Prior, member of Central Trains AC, got the shock of his life when fishing the club's latest Winter League match on the Island pool in the shape of this specimen Perch. Steve tempted the monster fish, weighing 5lbs 4oz, on chopped worm and caster on the pole from peg 12.
Needless to say, it is the largest recorded Perch ever caught from any of the pools. Although both Woodside pool and the Island pool contain Perch, they have never been properly stocked so it was a huge surprise to witness such a large fish. Fishery manager Pete Hughes commented: "who knows, in a years time, we might have a new British record Perch in one of our pools!"
A different fish weighing 2lb 13oz was also caught from Woodside pool during a Stables AC match capping off a fantastic brace of big fish.
A big congratulations to Steve, who was absolutely gob smacked!
We are pleased to announce that the maintenance work on the House pool has now been completed. The pool has been made deeper all over and the weed completely removed ready for re-stocking. The pool is not yet ready to fish, but we are glad to confirm the job has been a complete success.
Although traditionally a pool reserved exclusively for pleasure anglers, upon it re-opening, the House pool will be a third match pool with carp, f1's and decent sized bream on the stocking agenda. We still cannot confirm when exactly the pool will be available, but we hope to bring you more updates soon.
We are pleased to announce that we now have an all new gallery page for you to browse and enjoy at your leisure. We are looking to add to the gallery as often as we can, but in order to do this, we need your pictures!
If you have any recent photographs that you would like to see on our gallery page, then please e-mail them to us and we will accommodate.
Simply e-mail you pictures to woodside.bungalow@btinternet.com.
Charlie's pool is now open and available to fish. After many years of careful planning and gradual selective stocking anglers are already enjoying fantastic sport on this new water. Carp have already been taken in excess of 20lbs, with good quality roach and perch also being caught.
Anglers are asked to respect the fact the pool is still not quite finished and pegs, etc, are yet to be added, but you are more than welcome to fish Charlie's pool and take advantage of the quality fishing this pool has to offer.
Fish are currently been caught on a variety of baits and methods so why not come and give it a go.
Please be advised we are not taking match bookings on Charlie's pool - the pool is for pleasure fishing only. If you would like more information, please contact us on 01299 270 565 or, alternatively, contact us via our on-line enquiry form.
House pool has been completely drained of water as a result of excessive weed growth making much of the pool impossible to fish.
The excessive weed growth has been put down to the pool being too shallow in many areas so the decision was made to completely empty the pool to, most importantly, get rid of the weed as thoroughly as possible, but also to take the opportunity to deepen the pool in order to prevent the problem from reoccurring. The pool has drained slowly over the course of the last few weeks with the existing fish population being transferred in stages.
All fish have been successfully transferred and evenly distributed between both Woodside and Island pools. Fish that were caught and released into Woodside and the Island pool included carp to 15lbs, perch to 4lbs and chub to 5lbs.
The house pool will remain closed until further notice. Please note that pleasure anglers can fish Charlie's pool in the meantime except for the extreme left-hand side bank in-front of the new cabin development.
We can only apologise for any inconvenience caused and aim to have the House pool back up and running as soon as possible.
Pleasure angler Jon Jackson has smashed his PB carp with this fine linear mirror specimen, which tipped the scales at 17lbs.
Jon fooled the big mirror using a 4mm soft hook pellet fished tight against the island over a bed of loose fed fishery pellets whilst on holiday with the family in the on site accomodation available here at Woodside Fishery.
Well done!
Charlie's pool has recently been stocked with a variety of specimen carp including grass carp to over 20lbs, mirror, common and ghost carp to 15lbs and koi carp to 12lbs.
The newly developed cabins with wheelchair access are nearing completion. There is still a lot of work left to be done, but the cabins are now really taking shape.
The most recent developments include electric supply and front / rear wheelchair access. The area surrounding the cabins, along with the cabins situated in the woods, has been fully tarmaced, again, for ease of access with wheelchairs.
The new holiday cabins boast a prime location alongside the owner's property overlooking Charlie's pool.
Please be sure to check our news page again in the near future to keep up-to-date of any further developments.
Work continues on Charlies pool. Much of the banks have now been cleared of all undergrowth and levelled. The water level is now where it needs to be after some minor repairs that were needed to correct a slight leak on the damn wall.
Although not yet open to the general public, fishery staff have fished Charlies pool and have already taken Koi carp to double-figures with many normal carp approaching 5lbs.
There is still much to do including the installation of pegs not to mention an extensive stocking programme yet to take place, but we are hopeful that Charlies pool will be available to fish some time during the summer.
The road down to the cabins and the car park areas alongside each cabin have now been fully tarmaced. The limestone road surface previously laid down was becoming very messy, a lot of which was then been walked into the cabins themselves causing further problems. The decision was made to tarmac the entire area to tidy up the vacinity and to improve access generally.
The area surrounding the disabled cabins located next to the owner's property has also been tarmaced with ramps leading up to both front and back entrances for ease of access.
We hope you agree that the fresh tarmac has made the cabins and the surrounding area look a lot tidier. If you have any queries regarding availability, then please e-mail us.
Dudley A/C's K. Oldman captured an impressive 18lb 12oz carp during a club match on Woodside pool - a most unexpected bonus to his second place 45lb 12oz weight - especially at this time of year!
Woodside pool will feature within January's edition of Match Fishing magazine (available during the fourth week of December) after Grant Albutt fished Woodside pool.
The feature will focus on the importance of not ignoring silver fish during hard winter matches and Woodside Fishery was the deemed the perfect venue by Grant to put his winter match tips to the test and show you all how it's done.

For those of you that missed last weeks Anglers Mail Woodside Fishery enjoyed a full half page feature within the "Where to Fish Guide" of the Oct 26th edition of the popular Angling magazine. We have enjoyed a lot of new business on the back of the advert and encourage those that haven't already do so to have a read of the article and come and pay us a visit.
We will also be having a feature written about Woodside pool in Januarys edition of Match Fishing magazine, which is on sale during the last week of December.
Garbolino-backed match ace Grant Albutt visited Woodside Fishery, fishing peg 18 on Woodside Pool with friend and independent angling journalist, Steve Lockett. The session will feature in January's edition of Match Fishing magazine and will focus on remembering the importance of silver fish in matches during this time of year.
Grant Albutt emerged on the Commercial match scene as one of the first generations of specialist commercial anglers. His approach is meticulous and he is responsible for creating and developing several different methods for carp fishing. Probably one of the best 'Carp pole shallow' anglers around Grant was also the first to latch on to the effectiveness of liquidized meat fed through a kinder pot.
Grant's list of angling achievements is pretty impressive and includes:

The cabins overlook the fourth and newest pool, "Charlies Pool", which will itself also be available next year. The cabins will also have excellent views of the brand new fishing pool and are surrounded by beautiful garden.

"Charlie's Pool" is the latest addition to Woodside Fishery. The pool was originally excavated for the growth and development of Koi Carp and other ornamental fish. However, due to a change in direction, the pool is now being developed specifically with the pleasure angler in mind.
The pool will cater for approximately fithteen anglers (although this is yet to be confirmed) and will not be match fished. Depths vary from 2.5-10ft with the average depth being between 4-6ft.
The pool will be stocked mainly with Carp, but other species will also be stocked. The pool is unlikely to be available before the end of the year, but if you have any queries, then please do no hesitate to contact us.

Woodside Fishery has made front page news of the October 2010 issue of the Angling Star.
Independent angling journalist Steve Lockett fished the Island pool back in August for a feature on the pellet waggler and caught loads of fish. Steve is due to fish us again on October 25th with the view to publish another article in the Anglers Mail. Watch this space!
