Ten (10) anglers lined the banks of Island pool for this latest open. Conditions on the day were dry and bright but a near gale force wind made for difficult fishing.
Winner on the day, and continuing his superb run of form here at Woodside, was Dan Hart. The recently crowned Match Angler Of The Year made in two wins out of two on our open match series with an excellent 120-10-00 from an indifferent peg 14. Dan started his match fishing paste down his edge to catch a few early fish before his bites dried up. Like most, Dan had a difficult middle of the match and was going nowhere really, but an inspired moved to 6mm hard pellet up in the water saw Dan get amongst a large shoal of fish on the wind. Dan managed around 80lb during the last hour to turn his match around win by a massive margin.
Second place was secured by Les Jones. Les drew peg 1, which hasn't been in on any of the matches here for over twelve (12) months at least. Les offered sweetcorn down his edge to find quality fish in numbers to weigh in 67-11-00, but couldn't help but feel his peg was good for considerably more had it not have been for some very big fish trashing multiple rigs. Les's consecutive second place finish sees him qualify for the 2024 Match Angler Of The Year Final on weight with a total of 131-07-00 over two matches.
Taking the last of the main frame payout places was Josh Gaunt. Josh drew peg 4 just before the dam wall and, like Les, caught the majority of his fish down his edge on corn to weigh in 32-11-00, which included a double-figure haul of quality roach.
