You don’t have to fish lures for specimen perch. Scott reynolds has been banking some huge stripeys on shop-bought baits.
The Dudley, West Midlands angler made the headlines in October with a 4lb 7oz fish and numerous others to over 2lb from Woodside Fishery. We met the 23-year-old on the banks of the Shropshire venue to discover the bait combo he used to take this fish of a lifetime.
A must read for any perch enthusiast in search of big perch at Woodside.

Woodside Fishery is known for producing big perch during the depths of winter with numerous fish within the 2-3lb bracket being caught almost on a daily basis from November onwards. However, two huge perch have been banked during the height of summer!
Two huge perch, both nudging the scales to 4lb plus, were banked within the same week - the largest of the two being weighed at 4lb 7oz caught by 13 year-old Jack Taylor. Then, just a matter of days later, Woodside regular Jimmy Sallis recorded a new personal best with a superb fish weighing 4lbs exactly.

When the fish push beyond pole range, most anglers reach for the straight lead or feeder. Not England International Darren Cox - he believes that brushing up on your waggler skills will help you put more fish in the net in winter.
Many have dismissed the waggler to make way for more modern methods, but the Garbolino UK boss has never forgotten its pulling power, relying on it every season to keep up a winning record that few can match.

The fact that specimen perch are found in commercial carp lakes across the country is no secret. With no pike present in the majority of such waters and the fact that most of the match anglers fish mainly corn and pellets for carp, the perch have enjoyed a life largely free of predation or angling pressure.
Cleobury Mortimer may be one of the smallest towns in shropshire, but situated on the outskirts of the town, Woodside Fishery offers anglers the opportunity to fish for some of the biggest perch in the county.

MAP's Andy May travels to Woodside on the day of the solar eclipse and enjoys the session of a lifetime! Andy is a hugely respected all-round match angler, a silver medallist for England at youth level and three-time Kamasan Matchman of the Year.
Don't miss Andy's feature at Woodside in the June edition of Pole Fishing magazine, out in shops now!

Pole Fishing's Tom Scholey and Matt Godfrey visit Woodside to test two brand new pole releases from two of the sport's biggest stables.
Tom Scholey gets to grips with Maver's Elite Carp 4 offering on Island pool whilst Matt puts Drennan's new Acolyte Carp through its paces on House pool.

Following the recent relaunch of the House pool here at Woodside Fishery as a dedicated silver fish water, Garbolino-backed England International Darren Cox pays Woodside a visit to demonstrate the quality of fishing on offer and how best to target Autumn roach in numbers.

Landing a new personal best of most species can prove tricky during the depths of winter, but when it comes to perch there has never been a better time to catch a huge specimen. The cold and clear conditions are perfect for the predators to feed, and Angling Times reveal the UK's most prolific specimen perch stillwaters.

Local man, and Maver / Bag 'Em Baits match ace, Ian Giddins, visits Woodside to demonstrate the effectiveness of a deadly new tactic he's been experimenting with and perfecting over a number of months, helping him win matches up and down the country.
Preparing and feeding maggot in an unconventional way has seen Ian bag up in the margins - even in the depths of winter - but, could it work on a virgin water?

Maver / Marukyu backed match ace Andy Kinder revisits Woodside Fishery to fish the in-form Woodside pool for Total Coarse Fishing magazine.
Having too many fish in your swim can be a real problem on modern commercial fisheries like Woodside and, although it sounds like a nice problem to have, it can very often result in countless missed bites and frustration. Andy Kinder shows how best to manage this situation incorporating the use of Marukyu's new jelly pellets, JPz.

Steve Prior, member of Central Trains AC, got a shock when fishing the club's latest Winter League match on the Island pool in the shape of a specimen Perch. Steve tempted the monster fish, weighing 5lbs 4oz, on pole fished chopped worm & caster from peg 12.
It is the largest recorded Perch ever taken from any of the pools and, although both Woodside pool and the Island pool contain Perch, nobody knew they had grown to such proportions.

George Hunt (aged 9) shows how it's done during a recent stay here at Woodside Fishery with dad Ashley. The two enjoyed a three day holiday in the on-site accommodation and enjoyed numerous big catches including this lovely 70lb mixed bag of fish from Charlie's pool, which the Angling Times noticed.
George loves it here at Woodside and we look forward to welcoming him and his dad back soon.

Maver and Ultimate Barnsley Black match ace Andy Kinder fishes the Island pool with Match Fishing's Alex Bones in pursuit of big perch.
Following a run of large perch that have been captured in recent club matches, Andy targets the species using refreshingly simply tactics and demonstrates in detail how best to approach this sometimes difficult species withfantastic results.
