A small number of anglers attended this latest open match on the Island pool. Conditions were still not ideal with temperatures still feeling cold for the time of year. That said, conditions leading up to the match had been settled at least, which resulted in a noticeable improvement in recorded weights.
Winner on the day was Andy Rowbottom from peg 14 on the far bank close to the point of the island. Starting his match fishing pellet tight to the island, Andy was able to find carp and F1s before switching to his edge late on with maggot over groundbait. Andy weighed in 54-07-00.
Finishing close behind in second place was Leigh Harbutt from peg 18. Opting to start his match on corn short, Leigh got off to a great start finding carp in numbers up to 8lb before a cold wind saw the fish back off. Following the fish out to the island on banded pellet Leigh was able to pick up odd fish but after the wind picked up things got progressively slower and his edges never really produced as expected. Leigh finished the match with a weight of 52-10-00.
Third place went to local angler Steve Walsh. Steve drew peg 2 on the dam wall and caught short and down his edge on maggot to weigh in 17-13-00.
