Open Match, Island Pool

A small turnout saw just six (6) anglers attend this Saturday open held on the Island pool. Conditions on the day were quite a bit cooler than they had been during the week leading up to the match with a strong wind making a nuisance of itself.

Winner on the day was Match Angler Of The Year finalist Lee McKnight. Lee draw fancied peg 2 and made no mistake putting in a great performance to leave the rest of the field behind. Starting his match long at 13m with hard 6mm pellet, Lee managed a handful of carp before having to come down his edge due to the wind hampering his presentation. Again, concentrating on 6mm hard pellet, Lee found carp willing to feed in numbers to end the match with a superb 124-12-00 to confirm a comfortable victory.

Second place was taken by Les Jones. Les draw neighbouring peg 4 and caught mainly carp on sweetcorn down his edge to weigh in a respectable 63-12-00. A few lost fish possibly cost Les the match with his average stamp being significantly bigger than Lee's, but he wasn't able to match the sheer number of fish Lee was able to find.

Third place on the day was taken by Josh Sutterby from peg 11 on the far bank. Josh had a tough time of it with the wind being directly in his face limiting his options to a single track margin approach. Josh offered worm over groundbait down his edge to weigh in 60-00-00.
