A small turnout of just six (6) anglers attended this latest open match held on Woodside pool. Despite the recent full moons, overnight frosts and high air pressure, weights were good all things considered.
Winner on the day was Scott Rhodes. Scott drew peg 9 close to the point of the island and started the match fishing a 6mm hard pellet approximately fifteen (15) inches deep and was able to get among some decent stamp carp averaging 4-5lb. As the match progressed, the fish gradually became smaller and bites less frequent so a look down his right hand edge with maggot over groundbait produced another 20lb late on. Upon the scales making their way round, Scott recorded an impressive 141-08-00 to confirm a comfortable victory.
Second place was taken by Stan Taylor. Stan drew peg 3 on the opposite point of the island and caught most of his fish shallow on the waggler. Stan was struggling for bites on 6mm pellet so a switch to maggot got him among the fish before a late look on his short line with paste produced three lumps at the death to confirm a final 62-10-00.
Third place was awarded to Mark Beckford on peg 12. Fishing maggot on the pole for most of the match, Mark was able to put together a decent catch of carp as well as a superb near-30lb bag of quality silvers to weigh in 54-06-00.
