A small turnout saw just six (6) anglers attend this Saturday open match held on Woodside pool. Conditions on the day started off pretty pleasant with plenty of sunshine. However, as the day progressed, a cold breeze developed and the sun made way for widespread cloud cover.
Winner on the day was Mat Linforth, who drew peg 13 on the dam wall. Mat was able to maintain a steady catch rate for most of the match alternating between a variety of methods, but most of his fish during the first half of the match came to worm fished on the long pole at 14.5m. Offering worm on the deck over groundbait whilst pinging 6mm fishery pellet over the top accounted for a number of small carp averaging between 2-3lbs with the odd bigger fish as well as some skimmers and tench. Going into the second half of the match, Mat concentrated on his edge line offering worm over dead red maggot to enjoy a late run of fish with some real lumps turning up at the death to give Mat a final 92-11-00.
Finishing close behind in second place was Dave Bowyer, who drew peg 1. Opting to go straight down his edge from the off, Dave managed to find fish early on to dead red maggot, but couldn't match Mat's catch rate with fish coming in waves throughout the day and not really settling. Despite Dave's catch rate being stop, start, he enjoyed a great stamp of fish up to approx. 6lbs. Upon the scales making their way round, Dave confirmed another superb effort of 92-03-00 - just 8oz behind Mat!
Rounding off the top three on the day was Richard Fox, who drew peg 3. Foxy caught mainly carp on the pellet waggler to the island before finding fish down his edge on paste and expanders to offer 48-00-00 to the scales.
