A small turnout saw just six (6) anglers attend this Sunday club match on Island pool. Conditions on the day were a bit of a mixed bag with a large amount of cloud cover and some short but torrential showers at times followed by an almighty thunderstorm, thankfully, after the match had already finished. Despite the less than ideal conditions, sport on the day was pretty good.
Winner on the day was John Smith from peg 12. Fishing both corn and pellet down his edge, John was able to catch for most of the five hours racking up an impressive number of mostly small carp with odd individual bigger fish to weigh in 116-00-00.
Finishing close behind in second place was Martin White from peg 2. Despite a broken leg, Martin made the most of a good draw recording an all-carp catch from 'Wendy's" peg. Given his lack of mobility, Martin opted to fish a small method feeder down his right hand edge and found small carp willing to have a proper feed to offer 109-13-00 to the scales.
Concluding the top three finish, but a little way of the pace, was Dave Mallen from peg 14. Fishing corn over pellet down his edge, Dave had carp queuing up, but unfortunately lost a large number of fish to hook pulls and breakages - the carp on Island pool are extremely fit fish! At the end of the five hours, Dave managed 53-02-00 but, by his own admission, should've troubled the top two.
