Eight (8) anglers attended the opening round of the 2022 Winter League held on Woodside pool. Conditions on the day were incredibly mild for the time of year, which saw the resident carp making a nuisance of themselves. That said, despite a number of anglers being plagued by carp at various points during the match, the silverfish fishing didn't disappoint with nearly all the field achieving double-figure weights.
Winner on the day was local rod, Max Galaszewski. Max drew peg 9 and put in a caster fishing masterclass on both short and long lines. Despite being plagued with carp and big F1s, Max managed to get among some quality roach and rudd to offer 26-06-00 to the scales and get his winter league campaign off to a great start.
Second place was secured by Alan Cox, who drew peg 16 on the dam wall. Opting to fish pinkie short on just a top kit for most of the match, Alan was able to find some decent skimmers among the carp to weigh in a very respectable 20-11-00 despite being interrupted on numerous occasions throughout the day by some very large fish.
Completing the top three finish on the day was Jeff Rush from peg 13. Again, like Max, Jeff concentrated on an all out caster attack with most of his fish coming from down his edge. At the end of the five hours, Jeff weighed in 19-07-00 of mainly roach managing to put a little daylight between himself and fourth place.
