Saturday 21st February marked round three of our silverfish league with eight (8) anglers pegged on Woodside pool.
Conditions for this third and latest round saw a significant improvement in the weather with temperatures making it into double-figures and a welcome warm breeze creating a decent ripple. There were concerns that the increase in temperatures may result in the carp being a problem, but most anglers did enough to avoid them for the most part with only a handful per angler making a nuisance of themselves.
A SECTION
(pegs 7, 8, 10 & 12)
Winner of A section on the day was Dan Hart from peg 8. Having drawn the exact same peg on round two, Dan knew exactly what was required and made no mistakes. Fishing maggot up in the water long over to the island, Dan put together a silverfish masterclass finding good stamp roach with occasional rudd and skimmers also getting in on the action. Later, Dan switched to his edge with maggot to find some decent bonus perch to weigh in a superb 24-11-00 to take out the section and the lake overall.

Finishing in second place was Warren Jennings from neighbouring peg 10. Warren caught on both worm fished over groundbait on his short line and maggot fished up in the water to find mainly roach with odd skimmers to weigh in 16-07-00.
Third in section, and securing three (3) points, was Paul Cook from peg 12. Paul weighed in 15-13-00 of mainly smaller stamp roach .

W. Jennings | 10 | 16-07-00 | Worm short & maggot shallow | 2 |
P. Cook | 12 | 15-13-00 | Casters short & worm over groundbait long | 3 |
J. Latham | 7 | DNF | 5 |
B SECTION
(pegs 14, 16, 18 & 20)
Winner of B section for a second consecutive round was Max Galaszewski. Max drew peg 14 on the dam wall and fished caster short for the duration of the match to end the day with an excellent 20-13-00 for another single point score.

Runner-up in section B was Jeff Rush from peg 18. Jeff has, by his own admission, endured a bit of a slow start to his league campaign, but Jeff certainly found his mojo on round three with a decent 16-12-00 effort. Fishing maggot and caster long, Jeff found some good quality roach as well as a couple of decent bonus perch to secure a valuable and much needed two (2) points.
Local man Dan Bache secured third in section from peg 20 with another good effort, which saw the former Maver man weigh in 15-09-00

The milder conditions made for some great fishing on round three with Dan's match-winning effort also marking the highest recorded weight of the competition to date.
With just one round to go, Max Galaszewski now tops the leaderboard thanks, largely, to back-to-back section wins on his last two outings. Warren drops a place into second meaning that, if they draw in the same section on round four, Warren HAS to beat Max to win the league. Dan Hart remains in third place overall, but has managed to put some daylight between himself and Paul Cook in fourth with his near 25lb effort doing his cumulative weight no harm either!
Congratulations to both Dan Hart and Max Galaszewski on winning their respective sections and scoring a perfect single point each as well as each picking up £20.
Well done to all other competitors on the day. The fourth and final round takes place on Saturday February 28th.
