Saturday 28th saw the conclusion of this year's silverfish only league with very little separating the top three anglers going into the final round.
Conditions for the final round had been milder during the week leading up to the match itself with the resident carp finally waking from their winter slumber. Despite the carp being more active than in any other round previous, anglers did a decent enough job in avoiding them for the most part with nets mostly being made up of decent roach and big perch.
A SECTION
(pegs 7, 8, 10 & 12)
Winner of A section on the day was Warren Jennings from peg 10. Having drawn the exact same peg on round three, Warren made no mistakes and put together an impressive catch of quality roach as well as perch to around 2lb fishing caster and worm on his short line to offer a final 21-01-00 to the scales to score an all important single point.

Finishing second in section was Paul Cook. Paul drew peg 8 and opted to fish caster and pinkie short to weigh in 15-07-00 of mostly roach and small skimmers to finish the league with a useful two (2) point score.
Third in section, and securing his best result of the league, was Black Boy AC man, Steve Bagley. Steve drew unfancied peg 7, but fished a great match offering maggot short to weigh in a respectable 11-01-00.
ANGLER | PEG | WEIGHT | METHOD | PTS |
W. Jennings | 10 | 21-01-00 | Caster & worm short | 1 |
P. Cook | 8 | 15-07-00 | Caster & pinkie short | 2 |
S. Bagley | 7 | 11-01-00 | Maggot short | 3 |
J. Latham | 12 | 01-13-00 | 4 |
B SECTION
(pegs 14, 16, 18 & 20)
Winner of B section for a third consecutive round was local rod Max Galaszewski. Max drew peg 14 (again) and fished caster on his short line for most of the match before having a look down his edge later on with maggot in the hope of a big perch or two, but to no avail. Max ended the day with 13-09-00 of mostly good stamp roach to top a closely contested section and a single point.

Runner-up in section B was, once again, Jeff Rush. Jeff drew peg 18 and, unlike most of the field, found his fish long on caster to weigh in 12-09-00.
Local man Dan Bache secured third in section from peg 20 with 11-11-00 to hand Dan Hart a bitter four (4) points when he really needed to repeat his performance from round three.
ANGLER | PEG | WEIGHT | METHOD | PTS |
M. Galaszewski | 14 | 13-09-00 | Caster short & maggot in the margins | 1 |
J. Rush | 18 | 12-09-00 | Caster long | 2 |
D. Bache | 16 | 11-11-00 | 3 | |
D. Hart | 20 | 10-05-00 | 4 |

Going into the final round it was Max Galaszewski who was topping the leaderboard having only dropped a single point over three rounds of fishing. All he needed to do was beat Warren and, with a relatively slim weight advantage, it was always going to be close between the two of them. Max did all he could on the final round, topping his section, but Warren managed to pull it out the bag and snatch overall victory at the last minute with a superior section-topping 20lb plus bag. When all was said and done, the only difference between the two was arguably Warren's bonus perch caught on the final day, which almost certainly would've weighed over 2lbs!
Despite a disappointing final round for Dan Hart, which saw him finish last in his four-man section, he was able to hold on to third place overall by the slimest of margins, thanks largely to his superb round three result, which ended up being the highest recorded weight of the league overall.
Paul cook had to settle for fourth overall ahead of Jeff Rush, who really got into his stride during the second half of the league to top ex-Maver man, Dan Bache.

Congratulations to Warren Jennings on topping what was an extremely closely contested event with some very talented anglers taking part. Congratulations also go to Max Galaszewski who, despite missing out on the top spot by a whisker, once again showed his class finishing with an almost perfect score across the four rounds. Finally, well done to Dan Hart, who walked away with third place overall to finish ahead of some very strong competition indeed.
Well done to all other competitors that took part and made the league possible. Here's looking forward to the league again next year.
