Silvers League RD4, Island Pool

Unusually mild conditions for the time of year greeted the seven (7) anglers for this latest round of the Silvers League. Weather during the week had been pretty cold with a slight frost on Friday morning, which had resulted in a lot of the colour having dropped out of the water. There were also a few brief spells of rain during the match itself, which didn't really come to much. With the change in the weather, the resident carp were not as active as in previous weeks with anglers managing to get among some quality roach, skimmers and some nice perch.

Winner on the day was defending Champion, Max Galaszewski. Max drew peg 2 and opted to fish caster shallow to enjoy a lovely days roach fishing with some good stamp perch over a pound also getting in on the action. Max's catch rate died off a little towards the end of the day with a handful of carp moving in during the final forty five minutes, but he had done enough throughout the rest of the day offering 27-06-00 to the scales.

Second place was taken by the ever-consistent Dan Hart. The Worcester rod drew peg 5 on the dam wall and managed to put a decent run of fish together on maggot fished up in the water to weigh in 18-02-00. Unfortunately for Dan, he ensured a slow start and finish to the match, but certainly made the most of a busy few hours mid match and looks like the only man now capable of stopping Max's advances towards this years overall prize.

Third place on the day was secured by Josh Gaunt, who drew peg 7. Josh also fished maggot shallow from the centre of the dam wall to find mainly roach for a final weight of 14-08-00 to put himself back on track after a difficult third round.

LEAGUE STANDINGS AFTER ROUND 4

After round four, there has been very little change in the overall standings since the previous round.

Max increases his lead at the top of the table to a little over 10lbs with Dan still close enough behind to keep the pressure on.

Josh Gaunt remains in third place after a return to form sees him increase the gap between himself and fourth placed Jeff Rush.

Jeff now needs to keep an eye on Josh Sutterby, who gained a little ground after his fourth placed finish on the day. That said, a favourable draw next round could potentially see either Jeff or Josh making their way up the table if Josh Gaunt suffers another wobble on Woodside.

Round five takes place on Saturday 2nd December on Woodside pool.
