Baltic conditions marked the penultimate round of our silverfish series. Temperatures the night before had plummeted to -5 degrees and there was a relatively thick lid on the water. Anglers arrived for the draw earlier than normal to collectively break the ice with the match starting on time despite the conditions. In spite of the ice, anglers were still optimistic of a decent days fishing with plenty of quality roach and perch to target.
Winner on the day was Jeff Rush, who drew peg 16 on the dam wall. Starting his match at 11m with maggot and casters, Jeff enjoyed some lovely roach fishing before coming short later on in the match to continue catching roach shallow and bonus perch. Jeff ended the day with 11-06-00 to confirm a narrow victory on an extremely challenging day.
Second place was secured by Josh Gaunt from neighbouring peg 14. Fishing maggot over groundbait on his short line, Josh found silverfish in numbers willing to feed to weigh in 10-12-00.
Third place on the day was taken by Max Galaszewski. Max fished maggot short at 6m from peg 21 to find mainly roach with the odd skimmer plus a brace of big perch to end the match with 09-04-00.

LEAGUE STANDINGS AFTER ROUND 5
Again, after round five, there has been little change in the overall standings since the previous round.
Despite losing some ground, Max maintains his lead at the top of the table going into the final round with a slim 10lb advantage over Dan.
Josh Gaunt remains in third place after recording a decent second place finish, but Jeff's first place finish sees him edge ever so slightly closer to a podium finish overall.
Round six takes place on Saturday 16th December on Island pool.
