Eleven anglers from new club Bateman Vine AC attended their first ever match here on Woodside pool. Both the fishing and conditions on the day were a little mixed with anglers struggling to get to grips with the venue and the weather not really knowing what it wanted to do. The resident carp could be seen in the upper layers all over the lake, but were showing signs of pairing up perhaps for a repeat period of spawning. That said, although weights were below par, it was still a competitive match.
Winner on the day was Trevor Williams, who drew peg 12. Opting to fish maggot down his edg, Trevor was able to find odd carp and a smattering of roach and skimmer bream to weigh in a very modest 27-01-00.
Runner-up was awarded to Dave Lester, who drew peg 20. Offering sweetcorn down his edge, Dave managed 19-15-00 at the end of the five hours despite losing some very big fish.
Third place on the day went to Neil Gater from peg 10 on the point of the island. Starting his match on the pellet waggler, Neil found a few cruising carp beneath the willow on the island before switching to his edge late on with maggot to finish the day with 19-01-00.
