Twelve (12) anglers from Cradley Heath Liberal attended this first match of 2019 held on Woodside pool. Conditions leading up to the match had been a bit of a mixed bag with surprisingly heavy snowfall during the week making sure water temperatures stayed low despite brief spells of sunshine come the weekend. As a result, this first match of the season was a relatively low weight affair.
Winner on the day was Ian Smith. Ian drew peg 11 and started his match fishing pellet on the long pole and began catching silver fish in numbers. Ian decided to come off his long line and target his inside edge with pellet and corn to find some nice fish, plus a bonus carp mugged at the death. Ian finished the day with 27-02-00.
Runner up was Dave Johnson on neighbouring peg 10. Dave started his match fishing pole and pellet at 11m before switching to short pole and edge tactics in an effort to find the carp. Dave ended the day with a mixed bag of roach, skimmer bream and carp to weigh 20-08-00.
Third place on the day was taken by Rob Adams, who drew peg 1. Starting his match fishing short with maggot, Rob found roach and bream in numbers before trying down his edge, again with maggot, to offer 18-08-00 to the scales.
