A low turnout saw just six (6) anglers from Parkes Hall attend this Sunday contest on Woodside pool. The fish had, at last, began to spawn on the morning of the match so anglers were not permitted to fish their edges, including the far side edges on the island for anyone who drew an island chuck. This, needless to say, hampered anglers efforts, but the welfare of fish stocks whilst spawning must take priority. That said, there were no grumbles and we want to take this opportunity to thank participating anglers for adhering to the rules during what can be a tricky time for all involved.
Winner on the day was Denis Smart from peg 20. Opting to fish corn over fishery micro pellet short, Denis was able to find a handful of roach, rudd and skimmer bream, plus a few decent-sized carp to offer 32-08-00 to the scales.
Finishing close behind in second place was Dave Smart from peg 13 on the dam wall. Again, with the edges off limits, Dave opted to fish short with maggot both up in the water and to depth to end the day with 28-09-00 of silverfish and carp.
Third place was secured by Paul Bowdley on peg 3 close to the point of the island. Again, like most of the field, Paul concentrated his efforts on his short line with maggot both on the pole and, later, on the feeder to weigh in 20-08-00 of mainly small carp.
A difficult day for most with the resident carp clearly having other things on their mind!
